Ankleshwar, just across the Narmada from Bharuch, is one of Gujarat’s — and Asia’s — most important industrial towns, home to a vast chemical and pharmaceutical estate that drives the regional economy.
Travellers mostly meet Ankleshwar as a name on the highway, but the town repays a short stop: old Jain temples in the inner lanes, the Narmada’s broad reach and the Golden Bridge to Bharuch a few minutes north, and a working-town food scene that runs on the estate’s shift timings. October to March gives the comfortable weather for the detour.
