BEACH · COASTGolden sand on the Gulf of Kutch — camel rides, sea breezes and sunsets, beside an old port town of wooden ships and a seaside palace.
After the salt and stone of inland Kutch, Mandvi comes as a breezy surprise — a long sweep of golden sand on the Gulf of Kutch, fringed by wind turbines and lapped by gentle Arabian Sea surf. Camels and horses amble the shore, vendors sell snacks, and families gather for the famous sunsets.
Mandvi is an old maritime town, founded as a 16th-century port that once traded across the Arabian Sea to Africa and the Gulf. That heritage lives on in its centuries-old wooden shipbuilding yards, where huge dhows are still crafted by hand near the river mouth.
The most photogenic stretch is the private beach beside the regal Vijay Vilas Palace. Whether you ride a camel, try a water sport or simply watch the sun melt into the sea, Mandvi is the relaxed coastal counterpoint to Kutch’s deserts.

Mandvi’s coast pairs leisure with a living maritime craft. The main beach is a broad, gently shelving stretch of golden sand, backed by a line of wind turbines and, at one end, the grounds of Vijay Vilas Palace and its ticketed private beach.
A short way along the Rukmavati river stand the shipbuilding yards — open-air boatyards where skilled craftsmen still build large wooden dhows by hand, much as they have for centuries. Together, the beach and the boatyards make Mandvi both a holiday shore and a window into Kutch’s seafaring past.
