TEMPLE · JAINOne of India's oldest Jain pilgrimage temples — a serene white-marble complex at Vasai, reborn in dazzling form after the 2001 quake.
Near the coast of south Kutch lies Bhadreshwar (Vasai) — counted among the oldest Jain pilgrimage temples (tirths) in India, with origins that tradition traces back over two thousand years. For Jains across the country it is a deeply revered place of pilgrimage.
Like so much of Kutch, the temple was struck by the 2001 earthquake; what stands today is a magnificent rebuilt complex of white marble, its shikharas rising above carved pillared halls, surrounded by a large dharamshala for pilgrims.
Dedicated to the Tirthankaras, it gleams against the dry Kutch landscape. Quiet, well-kept and welcoming, Bhadreshwar offers both spiritual significance and architectural beauty, a worthwhile stop between Bhuj and Mandvi.

Shikharas above pillared marble halls.
The rebuilt Bhadreshwar temple follows the classic Jain temple form in gleaming white marble: a central shrine beneath carved shikharas, fronted by pillared assembly halls (mandaps) whose columns, brackets and ceilings are richly sculpted.
A spacious walled compound and dharamshala support the steady flow of pilgrims. Though modern in execution, the craftsmanship continues a long tradition of Jain temple-building, and the white marble set against the dry Kutch plain makes for a serene, luminous complex.
