The seaside life of Valsad
Just a few kilometres from Valsad town lies Tithal, the district’s best-loved beach. Its distinctive dark sand, gentle sea and pair of shoreline temples make it a favourite for day-trippers and pilgrims alike. Weekends and festival days bring seaside fairs — food stalls, camel and horse rides, and families out for the sea breeze. All around, Valsad district rolls out lush coastal countryside famed for its Hafus (Alphonso) mangoes.
A shore of temples and tides
Valsad district has a long stretch of Arabian Sea coast, running from Tithal south through the fishing settlements towards the Maharashtra border.
Tithal, five kilometres west of Valsad town, is the district's main beach and the one the whole area treats as its own.
Two shoreline temples stand on the sand — a Sai Baba temple and a Swaminarayan temple — so the beach draws pilgrims as well as day-trippers.
Weekends and festival days turn the front into a fair, with food stalls, camel and horse rides and families out for the evening.

Dark-sand beach
The dark, almost black sand is Tithal's signature, coloured by mineral-rich sediment washed down from the Deccan trap.
Shore temples
The temples stand directly on the shore, so worship and the beach happen in the same place.

Timing
November to February is the best beach weather — dry, mild and comfortable for an evening on the sand.
April and May bring the Alphonso harvest to the orchards inland, worth pairing with a beach trip.
June to September is lush but very wet, with heavy rain and rough seas along this coast.
