Tapi’s Adivasi communities keep a Holi all their own — a vibrant tribal version of the spring festival, alive with drumming, dance, colour and bonfires. Alongside it comes Diwaso, a monsoon-season festival observed by the Gamit and Chaudhari communities. Together these festivals frame the tribal year with days of music, ritual and community feasting that draw whole villages into celebration.
Festivals of the tribal year
Tribal Holi falls in spring, on the full moon of Phalgun, and is kept rather differently from the urban version — bonfires, all-night drumming and community dance take precedence over the throwing of colour.
Diwaso is observed in the monsoon month of Shravan by the Gamit and Chaudhari communities, marking the agricultural season and the ancestors, with ritual offerings and a communal meal.
Drums set the pace at both — the dhol and thali carried in procession, with dancers forming long lines that build and continue for hours.
These are whole-village occasions, not performances. Families return from wherever they are working, and the festivals are the fixed points of the Adivasi year in Tapi.

Stay for the night if you can. Holi night is when the drumming and dancing are at their strongest.
Share the feast
Accept food if it is offered. The communal meal is central and refusing it is awkward.
Respect the space
Remember these are village occasions, not events staged for visitors. Ask before photographing and follow your hosts' lead.
