FOSSIL PARK · DINOSAURS · RAIYOLIWhere dinosaurs once nested — the Balasinor Dinosaur Fossil Park at Raiyoli is one of the most important dinosaur fossil sites in the world, a vast prehistoric hatchery where the eggs and bones of creatures that roamed Gujarat 65 million years ago lie embedded in the earth.
The Balasinor Dinosaur Fossil Park at Raiyoli, in Mahisagar district, is one of the most significant palaeontological sites in the world — a place where the fossilised eggs, bones and nesting grounds of dinosaurs that lived around 65 million years ago, at the very end of the age of dinosaurs, lie embedded in the red rock of central Gujarat.
Raiyoli is renowned as one of the largest dinosaur fossil sites and one of the most important dinosaur hatcheries (nesting sites) ever discovered — vast numbers of fossilised eggs have been found here, evidence that this was a major breeding ground. It was in this region that the carnivorous dinosaur Rajasaurus narmadensis — a fearsome predator unique to India — was identified, one of the most important Indian dinosaur discoveries.
The fossil park, with its visitor centre and museum, brings this extraordinary heritage to life — displaying fossil specimens, reconstructions and models, and allowing visitors to walk among the very ground where dinosaurs once nested. For families, students and anyone captivated by the deep history of life on Earth, the Balasinor Dinosaur Park is an unforgettable experience.
