COAST · TOWN · GREEN SAURASHTRAA green, breezy coastal town of orchards, beaches and temples — Mahuva, nicknamed the 'Kashmir of Saurashtra', famed for its coconut groves, the Bhavani temple and the sea.
On the southern coast of Bhavnagar district lies Mahuva, an unusually green and pleasant town long nicknamed the ‘Kashmir of Saurashtra’ for its lush orchards, coconut and date groves, and gentle sea-cooled climate. A historic centre within the wider Saurashtra cultural sphere, Mahuva today is known for its agriculture — onions, coconuts and fruit — its woodcraft, and a cluster of attractions.
Among its draws are the revered Bhavani Mata temple, lakes and gardens, and beaches where the Arabian Sea meets the Gohilwad shore. The famous pilgrimage of Bagdana lies nearby, adding a devotional pull to the surrounding countryside.
With its greenery, temples and sea air, Mahuva makes a refreshing, lesser-known stop on the southern coast — a leafy, devotional and seaside corner of Saurashtra quite different from the dry plains inland. (The image shown here is an illustrated emblem.)

Mahuva’s character is green and coastal: a town set among coconut and fruit orchards, with the Bhavani Mata temple and other shrines at its heart, lakes and gardens, and the beaches of the Arabian Sea close by.
Its appeal is the contrast — lush groves, sea air and devotion on a coast otherwise known for its dry plains — earning it the fond title ‘Kashmir of Saurashtra’. (Shown here as an illustrated emblem.)
