TEMPLE · JYOTIRLINGAOne of the twelve sacred Jyotirlingas of Shiva — marked by a giant seated Shiva statue on the road between Dwarka and Bet Dwarka.
On the road between Dwarka and Bet Dwarka stands Nageshwar, revered as one of the twelve Jyotirlingas — the self-manifested shrines of Shiva that form one of Hinduism’s most important pilgrimages. For Shaivites, completing a Dwarka trip means bowing here.
The temple is impossible to miss: a colossal seated statue of Shiva, around twenty-five metres tall, rises above it, visible across the surrounding plain. Below, the Jyotirlinga itself is enshrined in an underground sanctum, where pilgrims file past in quiet devotion.
The shrine is wrapped in the legend of the demon Daruka and the devotee Supriya, whose unwavering faith is said to have called Shiva forth as Nageshwar, ‘lord of serpents’. Calm, powerful and easily combined with Dwarka, it is an essential stop.

Above and beside the temple rises the colossal seated figure of Shiva — around twenty-five metres tall, serene and unmistakable across the flat coastal landscape. Together, the hidden shrine below and the towering image above make the temple both intimate and monumental.
