ABOUT THE PLACE

A blaze over the ranges

Sunset Point is the most famous of Saputara’s many viewpoints — a high vantage looking west over the rolling, layered ranges of the Sahyadri towards the plains, from which the sunset is genuinely spectacular. As evening comes, visitors gather to watch the sun drop behind the hills, the sky and the misty valleys turning gold, orange and rose.

Reached by a short walk or, for the linked Governor’s Hill and Valley viewpoints, by the Saputara ropeway, it is a quintessential hill-station experience — cool and breezy, and a favourite end to a day in the hills.

The perfect close to a Saputara day. A viewpoint best enjoyed at sunset — carry a light for the walk back as the hills fall into darkness.
