Just east of Veraval and Somnath lies Sutrapada, a coastal town and taluka with a working fishing harbour and a long, quiet shoreline on the Arabian Sea. Less visited than the temple town nearby, Sutrapada is a place of fishing boats and jetties, sea breezes and a small old Surya (Sun) temple that gives the area an ancient flavour.
The coast here, with its tidal flats and beaches, is part of the rich marine stretch of the Saurashtra shore and sees nesting sea turtles in season along parts of this coastline. For the traveller, Sutrapada offers a glimpse of everyday coastal Saurashtra life away from the pilgrim bustle of Somnath — a quiet detour of harbour, shore and sea. Sutrapada has been a settled fishing shore for a very long time, sitting on the same coast that made Somnath and Veraval important.
A small old Surya temple stands here, evidence that the settlement long predates the modern harbour.
A working fishing harbour developed with jetties and moorings, and it remains the town's economic base.
It stayed a quiet coastal taluka while Somnath a few kilometres west became a major pilgrimage destination.

When to go
November to February is the best window — dry, mild and the easiest season for the harbour and beaches.
The monsoon brings rough seas and the fleet stays in port; the coast road can flood in places.
March to May is hot and exposed; visit the harbour early in the morning when the boats come in.
