Vada Talav is the large historic lake at the heart of the medieval city of Champaner, one of the many water structures built to serve the Sultanate capital. Around and within it stand graceful monuments — most notably the Kabutarkhana, a charming domed pavilion (once a pleasure pavilion) set by the water — that reflect the refined courtly life of Mahmud Begada’s city.
Calm and scenic, especially in the soft light of morning and evening, Vada Talav and its pavilions are among the gentler, more romantic corners of the Champaner-Pavagadh UNESCO park, mirroring the hill and the monuments in their still waters.

Vada Talav was one of the water structures built to supply Champaner, a capital of tens of thousands set on a dry plain with no perennial river.
The Kabutarkhana stands beside the water — a domed pavilion built for pleasure rather than utility, and the tank's most photographed feature.
It belongs to Mahmud Begada's city, and the pavilion is evidence that this was a court with time for leisure architecture as well as mosques and walls.
The tank and its buildings now form part of the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, inscribed by UNESCO in 2004.
