A tribute to a poet
Tucked away in the Lambeshwar ni Pol in Ahmedabad’s old walled city is one of the most charming small heritage spots in town — Kavi Dalpatram Chowk, a little square created around the restored home of Dalpatram (1820–1898), one of the pioneers of modern Gujarati poetry.
The chowk’s centrepiece is a life-size bronze statue of the poet, shown seated informally on a low plinth as if chatting with passers-by, set before the carefully conserved facade of his house. Created as part of Ahmedabad’s old-city heritage revival, the square is a delightful example of how the historic pols are being celebrated.
