A Gaekwad reservoir turned pleasure garden

The Ajwa reservoir was built as a water supply for Vadodara under the Gaekwads, part of the same programme of public works that gave the city its museums and university.
The Nimeta gardens were laid out alongside it — lawns, flowerbeds and walkways on the bank, designed as a public leisure ground.
A musical fountain was added and became the site's main draw: choreographed jets set to lights and music, run once each evening.
It settled into being Vadodara's standard family weekend outing, about 25 km out from the city.

November to February is the pleasantest season for an evening on the lawns.
