ABOUT THE PLACE

A revered old-city Shiva shrine

Siddhnath Mahadev is one of the long-revered Shiva temples of Jamnagar — a Mahadev shrine in the old Halar capital founded by the Jadeja Jams, where the worship of Shiva is woven into the life of the city. The temple enshrines a Shivalinga and is a centre of traditional devotion, drawing worshippers throughout the year and especially in the holy month of Shravan and on Mahashivratri, when the offering of water and bilva leaves to the linga fills Shiva temples across Gujarat.

Jamnagar — a city rich in temples, famed for its round-the-clock chanting at the Bala Hanuman temple by Ranmal Lake — has a deep devotional culture, and Siddhnath Mahadev is part of that fabric. The temple’s atmosphere is one of everyday, traditional worship — the Shivalinga, the bell, the aarti and the steady stream of devotees — in the historic surroundings of the old city of Jamnagar.

For the visitor, Siddhnath Mahadev offers darshan at a revered old-city Shiva shrine — best combined with Jamnagar’s other temples and the Lakhota lake. (An active Shiva temple; free entry; modest dress; busiest during Shravan and on Mahashivratri.)
