✦ DISTRICT TRAVEL GUIDEForts, forests & ancient ruins.
Sabarkantha is one of Gujarat's 33 districts — explore its destinations, culture, food, heritage, wildlife and hidden gems in this complete travel guide.
Sabarkantha — ‘the bank of the Sabarmati’ — is a district of granite hills and quiet forests in North Gujarat, where the Aravallis dip toward the plains. Its great surprise is the Polo Forest near Vijaynagar: a hushed valley of 15th-century ruined temples slowly swallowed by jungle, beloved of trekkers and birdwatchers.
Above the boulder-strewn town of Idar rises a dramatic hill fort with sweeping views, while Khedbrahma guards a rare temple to Lord Brahma. Add tranquil dams, Jain shrines and forest trails, and you have one of Gujarat’s most underrated escapes.
