BRIDGE · MODERN MARVELIndia's longest cable-stayed bridge — a soaring sea link from Okha to the holy island of Bet Dwarka, glowing at sunset over the Arabian Sea.
Inaugurated in 2024, the Sudarshan Setu is one of modern Gujarat’s signature landmarks — a soaring cable-stayed bridge, among the longest of its kind in India, that sweeps across the sea to connect the mainland town of Okha with the sacred island of Bet Dwarka.
For centuries, pilgrims could reach Krishna’s island only by ferry. Now they can drive across in minutes, or walk the dedicated footpath high above the water.
The bridge is far more than infrastructure: its pedestrian walkway is inscribed with verses from the Bhagavad Gita, solar panels run along its length to power its lights, and after dark the whole span is illuminated. At sunset, with the sun dropping between its pylons and fishing boats scattered below, the Sudarshan Setu has quickly become one of the Dwarka coast’s most photographed sights.

The Sudarshan Setu is a cable-stayed bridge: its deck is suspended from cables that fan down from tall central pylons, allowing a long, graceful span across the sea channel between Okha and Bet Dwarka. It carries vehicle lanes alongside a generous pedestrian walkway.
Thoughtful touches give it identity beyond engineering — Bhagavad Gita verses inscribed along the footpath, solar panels integrated over the walkway to power its own lighting, and a night-time illumination scheme that turns it into a glowing thread across the dark water.
