HIDDEN GEM · DAIRY HERITAGEBehind the scenes of a revolution — the Amul Museum Tour at the Anand dairy campus, where guided visits through India's most famous co-operative reveal the extraordinary story of how one dairy changed a nation's food.
The Amul Museum Tour is one of India’s most unusual and rewarding factory visits — a guided walk through the Anand Milk Union Limited dairy campus that takes in the processing plant (Asia’s largest dairy) and the dedicated museum tracing the story of the White Revolution.
Founded in 1946 by a farmers’ co-operative under the vision of Tribhuvandas Patel (and later made famous by Verghese Kurien’s management genius), Amul grew from a small Charotar dairy to become the institution behind India’s Operation Flood — the programme that turned India from a milk importer to the world’s largest dairy producer.
The museum documents this with photographs, timelines and artefacts — the story of a co-operative movement that transformed not just Gujarat but India’s entire food economy. And at the end of the tour, there’s fresh Amul produce straight from the source. (Book in advance; weekday visits only. Tours in English & Gujarati.)
