It was dammed to secure the towns' water supply, as most of Saurashtra's rivers eventually were.

When to go
November to February is the best season across Surendranagar district and the most comfortable for a lakeside walk.
The weeks after the monsoon are when the reservoir is full and the spillway gates are at their most dramatic.
March to June is hot and dry, and the water drops; come at dawn or in the last hour of light.
