Mehsana (Mahesana) is the busy commercial heart of north Gujarat — a district headquarters and transport hub that, for most travellers, is the gateway to some of the state’s most remarkable heritage. The dazzling Sun Temple at Modhera, the ancient town of Vadnagar, the Jain temples of Taranga, the Shakti shrine at Becharaji and the Umiya Mata temple at Unjha all lie within the district.
