ABOUT THE PLACE

Abode of Rang Avadhoot

Nareshwar — Nareshwar Dham — is a serene pilgrimage centre on the banks of the Narmada, famous as the abode of Pujya Shri Rang Avadhoot Maharaj, a much-loved 20th-century saint of the Dattatreya tradition whose teachings drew a wide following across Gujarat and beyond.

The ashram he established here, with its Datta temple, his samadhi shrine and the peaceful riverside setting, is a place of pilgrimage and meditation. It grows especially busy on Datta Jayanti and Gurupurnima, when devotees gather for aarti, bhajan and the saint’s remembrance.

Like the other holy sites along this stretch of the Narmada, Nareshwar combines spiritual devotion with the serene beauty of the sacred river. It remains, above all, a tranquil place of pilgrimage — an ashram where modest dress is expected and the calm of the water sets the pace of the day.
