ABOUT THE PLACE

Calm water below the dam

The Garudeshwar Weir is a barrage built across the Narmada downstream of the Sardar Sarovar Dam, near the pilgrimage town of Garudeshwar. By holding back the river, it creates a broad, calm stretch of water — part of the integrated development of the Narmada below the main dam — that has become a venue for water sports and a scenic riverside spot.

The still water, set against the wooded hills and the spiritual backdrop of Garudeshwar’s temples, makes it a pleasant, lesser-known addition to a Kevadia-area visit, combining engineering, recreation and the serenity of the sacred river.
