TEMPLE · HANUMANOne of Ahmedabad's most beloved Hanuman shrines — a long-revered temple in Shahibaug where Tuesdays and Saturdays overflow with devotion.
In the Shahibaug area — long known as the ‘Camp’ from its cantonment days — stands one of Ahmedabad’s most loved Hanuman temples. Locally simply ‘Camp Hanuman’, it has drawn devotees for generations who come to seek the strength, protection and courage that Lord Hanuman embodies.
The temple comes into its own on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the days sacred to Hanuman, when queues spill into the street and the air fills with the scent of oil, sindoor and marigold. Devotees offer garlands, coconuts and sweets, tie sacred threads, and pause for a moment of quiet before the sindoor-covered murti.
It is less a grand monument than a living neighbourhood shrine — a place that captures the everyday, heartfelt devotion woven through the city’s life.

Camp Hanuman is a neighbourhood temple rather than a monumental one — a compact shrine built around the central Hanuman murti, with a small mandap for devotees and space for the queues that form on Hanuman’s days. Over the years it has been extended and embellished by its devotees, with tiled floors, a decorated sanctum and offering counters.
Its character comes not from architecture but from atmosphere: the press of the faithful, the bells, the marigold and oil, the steady rhythm of darshan. It is devotion made tangible in the middle of a busy quarter.
