Gujarat's cleanest, bluest beach
A short drive north of Dwarka, Shivrajpur has become the poster child of Gujarat’s coast — one of only a handful of beaches in India to earn the international Blue Flag, awarded for cleanliness, safety and facilities. A wide crescent of pale sand meets water of an unusually clear, Caribbean-like turquoise.
The beach is well set up for visitors, with lifeguards, changing rooms, walkways and seasonal water sports, yet it rarely feels crowded. Just offshore lies the Marine National Park of the Gulf of Kutch, a world of coral, sponges and the occasional dolphin.
With its clean sands, calm shallows and glorious sunsets, Shivrajpur is the perfect coastal counterpoint to Dwarka’s temples — and a sign of where Gujarat tourism is heading.

Shivrajpur was a quiet fishing stretch of the Gulf of Kutch coast north of Dwarka, visited by almost nobody from outside the district.
In 2020 it became one of the first Indian beaches to earn Blue Flag certification, the international standard for clean, safe, well-run beaches.
That brought walkways, lifeguards, changing rooms and marked swimming zones — infrastructure most Indian beaches simply do not have.
It is now the flagship of Gujarat's beach tourism, and the one beach in the state that meets an international standard.

Shivrajpur’s appeal is natural, but its Blue Flag status reflects careful management: clean, graded sands, marked safe-swimming zones, lifeguard towers, walkways, seating, changing rooms and waste systems that meet a strict international standard.
The setting does the rest — a broad shallow bay of clear turquoise water on the Gulf of Kutch, with the Marine National Park’s reefs and islands not far offshore. It is a rare combination on India’s west coast of a genuinely clean beach and a rich marine environment.

When to go
November to February is the best season on the Dwarka coast — calm, clear seas and comfortable days on the sand.
The monsoon is warm and humid with a rough sea; water sports and boat trips are often suspended.
March to June is hot and very bright, though the sea breeze helps; come in the late afternoon rather than at midday.
