Amul — the Anand Milk Union Limited — is arguably Gujarat’s most influential institution, a dairy co-operative founded in 1946 whose success in pooling the milk of small farmers into a great enterprise launched India’s White Revolution and turned the country from a milk importer to the world’s largest dairy producer.
Driven by the vision of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and built by the co-operative genius of Tribhuvandas Patel and the management genius of Verghese Kurien, Amul became the model for the National Dairy Development Board and the entire Gujarat co-operative dairy network.

When to go
October to March is the ideal season for Anand and the Charotar plain around it.
The monsoon is lush but humid; the museum and plant are indoors, so the season matters less than it does elsewhere.
April to June is hot on this plain; take the earliest slot of the day and start early.

At Anand, in the Charotar region of central Gujarat, roughly midway between Ahmedabad and Vadodara and easily reached from either.
Is there an entry fee?
Entry is free or nominal, but visits must be arranged in advance with Amul Anand rather than turning up at the gate.
When should I visit?
October to March, when the Charotar plain is at its most pleasant. Whatever the season, come on a weekday and early in the day.
