WILDLIFE · GIR ZONEThe Gir Interpretation Zone at Devalia — a fenced safari park offering an almost-guaranteed glimpse of Asiatic lions and Gir wildlife on a short guided tour.
For visitors who can’t secure a full Gir safari permit, or who are short on time, the Devalia Safari Park — officially the Gir Interpretation Zone — offers a wonderful alternative. This large fenced enclave on the edge of the sanctuary recreates the Gir habitat and is home to lions, leopards, deer, antelope and other native species, viewed from a guided bus or jeep on a short circuit of roughly thirty to forty-five minutes.
Sightings of lions are far more reliable here than in the open park, making it especially popular with families and first-time visitors. While it lacks the wild unpredictability of a core-zone safari, Devalia is an easy, near-guaranteed and educational encounter with the famous wildlife of Gir. It makes a perfect complement to — or a fine substitute for — the main park safari.

The Devalia Interpretation Zone is a sizeable fenced enclave that recreates the dry-forest habitat of Gir, stocked with the sanctuary’s key species and crossed by a controlled route for guided vehicles. Rather than the open unpredictability of the core park, it offers a managed, compact circuit designed for reliable viewing and education. It is the wildlife of Gir made accessible — ideal when time is short or core-zone permits are unavailable.
